The Churchill
Scholarship
Established in 1959 at the recommendation of Winston Churchill himself, the
Winston Churchill Foundation offers American students of exceptional ability
and outstanding achievement the opportunity to pursue a one-year graduate program
in engineering, mathematics, or the sciences at Churchill College, the University
of Cambridge. The Foundations offers twelve Churchill Scholarships each year.
The scholarship covering all University and College tuition and fees and, in
addition, students receive a living allowance and a travel allowing of up to
$1,000. Interested students should contact the URCA Coordinator months in advance
of the campus deadline.

The UCSB Washington Program provides a unique opportunity in experiential learning. It is a residential program that combines research, internships and optional elective coursework. Designed for undergraduates in their third or fourth year at UCSB, the program assumes that students have completed a significant part of their upper-division and major courses, and that their internships and research projects will serve to enhance their academic study. This is not a program designed for any one major. Students in all fields are welcome and encouraged to apply. Please contact the UCDC Peer at ucdc@ltsc.ucsb.edu.

Awards are offered to support major research and creative projects, including
research-related travel. One-time grants of up to $250 are available for

Conference on Undergraduate Research) at California State University, Dominguez Hills
SCCUR celebrates the research, scholarship, and creative activities carried
out by undergraduate students throughout Southern California. Students in all
disciplines, the arts, humanities, sciences, and social science, present their
faculty-mentored projects to audiences of peers, faculty and administrators
through performance, oral and poster presentations, or displays. Details on

A. Strauss Scholarship Foundation
A proposal for a community or public service project, to be carried out during
the senior year, is the major focus of the application for the Strauss Scholarship.
This is a $10,000 scholarship that will be used to pay for some of the costs
of the public service project as well as for tuition, fees, books, room and
board.

Beinecke
Brothers Memorial Scholarship Program
For junior-level students who will be graduating within a year of application
and pursing graduate studies in the liberal arts. Must demonstrate superior
standards of intellectual ability and personal promise, and have a documented
history of need-based financial aid during undergraduate career. Award consists
of $2,000 to help with costs of applying and traveling to graduate school, plus
$30,000 for graduate school support.

Udall Foundation Scholarship
Up to 80 scholarships for up to $5,000 or the cost of tuition, fees, books,
and room and board, whichever is less, are awarded annually nationwide on the
basis of merit to TWO groups of students:
- Those who are college sophomores or juniors in the current academic year, having outstanding potential, and who study the environment and related fields
- Native American and Alaska Native students who are college sophomores or juniors in the current academic year, having outstanding potential, and are in fields related to health care or tribal public policy.

The Chancellor's
Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research
This award is given to an outstanding graduating senior with distinction as
an undergraduate researcher, and to a faculty member with distinguished record
of mentoring undergraduate research. Faculty and student candidates for this
award must be nominated by an academic department or program, or by an organized
research unit.
The Fiona
Goodchild Award for Excellence as a Graduate Student Mentor of Undergraduate
Research
Given to outstanding graduate students who have distinguished themselves through
their excellence in, and contribution to, undergraduate research supervision,
and to encourage others to become involved in these research efforts. The graduate
students must be nominated by an academic department or program, or by an organized
research unit.
The Pahl "Making a Difference"
Award
Established by UCSB alumni, Louise and Stephen Pahl, the "Making a Difference"
Award will be given at commencement to honor an upper-division student in the
Division of Social Sciences, preferably a graduating senior, who is involved
as a volunteer in community and/or campus-related activities, and who has written
a course-related paper (for a course within the Division of Social Sciences)
which applies learning theories to real-world contemporary issues.

UCSB Undergraduate Colloquium - May 20
Annual event giving undergraduate students an opportunity to expand their professional-level
experiences by presenting their research and creative work with a poster/exhibit
presentation. Any UCSB undergraduate who has recently completed or is
actively involved in a project may submit an entry to present at the colloquium.
