Passing on the Art and Craft of Pottery


Weighing in on how pottery traditions have been handed down, Assistant Professor of Art History Jenni Sorkin explains that the 1944 G.I. Bill led to an increase in college ceramics programs. These programs helped pass on teachings such as those of renowned British ceramicist Bernard Leach, as his “A Potter’s Book,” which provides information on making a living as a potter, was a popular part of the curriculum.
