UCSB Psychology Professor Finds that Weight-Stigmatizing Messages May Have the Opposite Effect


When it comes to weight loss, stigma begets stigma. Such are the findings of study on the impact of weight-related media messages by Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences’ Brenda Major. As it turns out, articles meant to inspire weight loss instead only motivate readers to eat more. The Huffington Post UK also wrote about the study.
