Newfound Monster Supernova Breaks Records


In a new study of the extinct, superluminous stars known as "the dinosaurs of supernovae" and their "fossil light," Department of Physics researcher Andrew Howell has found the most likely power source: the creation of a magnetar — a magnetized neutron star with the mass of the sun a magnetic field one hundred trillion times that of the Earth.
