The College encourages and supports faculty who receive distinguished awards, and is committed to helping them take full advantage of research opportunities. Towards this end, the following policies have been developed to benefit those who receive nationally and internationally recognized awards and fellowships: • Salary supplements will be made following awards of $20,000 - $30,000; awards of smaller amounts will be supplemented for less than a full year, depending on the amount of the award. • Faculty members should have accrued sabbatical leave credits before applying for fellowships/awards. The College will require six credits to be forfeited in exchange for an annual supplement; quarterly supplements will require two credits/quarter. In rare circumstances, credits may be liened with the approval of the Associate Vice Chancellor. • The recipient of a College supplement should plan to return to campus for an amount of time equal to the leave before applying for any additional leaves (sabbatical, without salary, etc.). Only in exceptional cases will the College support a second consecutive year of leave. It is also expected that College-supported awards will be used for research only; if teaching will be included as part of the leave, the size of the supplement may be reduced accordingly. • Replacement funding will be provided at the discretion of the dean and in consultation with the chair. The department should consider offering nonessential courses in an alternate quarter or year whenever possible, and should plan to staff essential courses with existing ladder faculty or lecturers. |
